Protect your mind

Garbage in usually means garbage out. (GIGO)

We live in an age of information overload so how do we best protect our mind so we can get an appropriate margin of utility for each member of our family whether it’s our DNA family, church family and/or community family?
A principal was told by a number of independent families that their kids had to take medicine to calm them down so he said he didn’t want to dispute the doctors but he wanted to try an experiment first. He suggested that they restrict all media to ½ an hour per week and have them outside for one hour a day.  They said they couldn’t because it wasn’t safe so he said then go out with them.  As a result, the neighbourhood cleaned up and none of the kids had to go on medication. Check out the movie Captivated for more details.
Think about it.  Who or what is controlling you?  Is this producing love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness faithfulness, gentleness, self-control…or are less successful attributes being produced?  Stress? Addictions? Violence? Fear? If so identify what goes into your brain and how.  Can you improve things by controlling the amount of time you spend on the phone, watching TV, gardening…etc.
When Jesus’ disciples were going to go through one of the biggest storm of their lives; Jesus death, Jesus took them to the vineyard and taught them about growing fruit. Check out the Secrets of the Vine for more information.  When we think of the armour of God as described in chapter 6 of Paul’s letter to the Ephesians it says to put on the helmet of salvation.  Know that you are saved by the death and resurrection of Christ. Know that you are loved by an Abba Father who was willing to send His Son on a rescue mission just for you.  Know that Jesus modeled a God filled relationship with His Father and demonstrated power over death.
Other tools that may help you are:
Covenant eyes software. It will e-mail your support team every new website you go to.
Know that the damage pornography, gambling and access to medication online is doing to folks physically, emotionally, financially, sexually and spiritually is significant so I recommend that you find a team that supports your values.
Don’t overwhelm yourself.  Take one line snacks found in Spiritual Snacks and savour it, and if you can absorb a full meal take time to digest the Spiritual meals that are also found in the book. Especially note how we need to watch our assumptions. Some examples are found by clicking on the link below:

Discipline

S A Yes, if God should give punishment and stripes, it ought to be a matter of thankfulness; because He always does so for our welfare, whatever He permits to happen to us. (CIoC) God likes to take “the lemons in our lives” and make lemonade yet sometimes He does need to discipline us because He loves us and He knows more about us than we know about ourselves and He wants the best for us. Contemplate on how Jesus handled Peter when he cut off the guard’s ear at His arrest and His reconciliation with Peter. What can you learn from Peter’s experience that will help you in your life now? You can discover this story in the biographies of Christ written by Sa...

Good pleasure

Help me not to judge according to the sight of the eyes, not to give sentence according to the hearing of the ears of ignorant people; but with a true judgement to discern between things visible and spiritual, and above all to be ever searching after the good pleasure of Your will.
